Occupational Outlook
As offices become more dependent on technology, the responsibilities attributed to the office professional have undergone tremendous changes. Technological advances and the restructuring of organizations have caused secretarial and administrative staff to perform tasks that were once only performed by management and professional staff. Administrative assistants and secretaries give training and orientation for the new staff, complete Internet research, and utilize and troubleshoot office technologies. Despite these changes, the core duties for secretaries and administrative assistants have remain unchanged: Performing and coordinating the administrative activities of an office, and storing, retrieving, and integrating information.
