Public Policy Schools
The formulation of public policy is a rational attempt to address and solve a particular political, economic, or social issue or problem, especially at all levels of government. Public policy making involves analytical and decision-making processes, and at least some sort of consensus building. Factors to be analyzed or considered may include cost versus benefit, competition, the ethics of a particular situation, public safety, and government regulation. However, public policy is all about putting research and theory into practice.
Those involved in the formation of public policy can include government, corporations, nonprofits, community groups, and the citizen public as well as business, political, academic, religious, and other groups. Examples of public policy issues include budget allocation, law enactment, and regulatory oversight.
Public policy degree programs may include courses in research methods, ethics, economics, politics, and the social sciences. Those who wish to work in the field of public policy must have excellent analytical skills.
