Property managers oversee both residential and commercial properties, and they are ultimately responsible for the maintenance and administration of buildings and non-moveable assets. Property management training includes studies in residential and commercial property law, advertising, accounting, local building codes, and lease law. Certification is considered valuable and may sometimes be mandatory. According to the National Property Management Association, three certifications are available. For applicants with less than 3 years of experience in property management, there is the Certified Professional Property Specialist (CPPS) designation. After acquiring this certification and between 3-6 years of experience, they can become Certified Professional Property Administrators (CPPA). Recognition as a Certified Professional Property Manager requires more than 6 years of experience plus a previous CPPA certification.
