Quality Core Curriculum Standards (Georgia)
The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an effort by governors and state education commissioners from 51 states and territories to develop a core quality standard for language arts and mathematics education for grades kindergarten through 12.
The Georgia Department of Education has been a part of that initiative since 2002 to "improve student achievement by providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum, the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS)." The GPS is now implemented for all core curriculum content areas.
